I found myself looking up what the current men's American record for distance in a 24 hour race is. By the way, the record 162.459 miles set by Mark Godale in 1999. Then I thought to myself, "Well, I think I could beat that." My head is getting outta control. Across The Years is going to be my first ultra and I'll be lucky to run 100 miles which is my goal and my brain is telling me that I can set American records...get out of my head brain! You're going to mess up my concentration!
This is my current conversation with my brain:
Me: Slow your roll brain!
Brain: You can be an American record holder!
Me: I need to remain focused on the current goal of completing the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon.
Brain: With all due respect, and remember I'm saying with all due respect, that idea ain't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin gettin' it on.
Me: Brain, that's from Talladega Nights
Brain: Oh yeah? Well...SHAKE AND BAKE!!!
Me: Huh?
Brain: THAT JUST HAPPENED!!!
Me: Brain, you're friggin' crazy...wait, does that make me crazy?
Brain: You're the one talkin' to me...
Me: Shut up.
Then I was reading February's Runners World magazine and I read this Chinese Proverb: "A journey of 100 miles begins with a single step". I have a feeling I'm going to need to remember that proverb over the next year.
I have a nice long 13 mile run planned for tomorrow. I'm going to try to have a nice consistent run. This will be my first run at that distance so it's going to be a good indication of where I'll be halfway through the San Diego marathon. The race is still 14 weeks away so I'll be able to improve on tomorrow run a lot.
I'm very happy that I only have one more day of work before my next four days off. We've got a lot planned for these next four days in order to prepare for the move. It's going to be crazy busy and I'm sure it'll be slightly stressful at times but it will all be worth it once we're finally moved into our new place.
