There's no denying it now

Current Music: Al Martino - Daddy's Little Girl

Not that I've ever doubted it because the physical evidence is overwhelming and I know how much Erin loves me, but I have confirmed that Natalie is definitely my daughter. You might ask "Carlos, what do you mean?" To which I would reply, well not only does Natalie look pretty much like I did as a baby, and not only is she walking at 11 months, but now she's started running!!! That's right, she is a runner just like her daddy! It's so adorable to watch her try run too because her little legs can't quite keep up with her bodies momentum, so she gets about five feet before she goes tumbling. I hope to get a video of her running soon.

In case you haven't heard by now...I don't know how it would be possible unless you have been living under a rock for the past week...but Christmas came early for me this year. WAY EARLY. The in-laws have bought me an iPad and I LOVE IT!!! As a matter of fact this entire blog post was done on my iPad. This little device is completely addicting and it's such a struggle to put it down each night. Granted it's not a perfect device but Apple does such a great job coming out with software updates that it's only a matter of time before all the kinks are ironed out. Especially considering that Apple announced a huge upgrade to the operating system coming out in June. This little device is definitely a game changer people. Look in to getting one because it will change your life.

As if working 12 hours straight wasn't hard enough

Well it appears that I have once again been slacking on my blogging...but I have to say I have a good excuse! I have been watching my team, the Yankees dominate the AL East! GO YANKEES!! REPEAT!!!

Actually I have been running...a lot. After skipping missing three days two weeks ago and having terrible runs following the three off days I have been making sure to not only run all the runs that are in my work out plan, but also making up the runs that I missed. Let me tell you, I haven't felt better the entire time I have been training. I ran some of the fastest runs since I started training for the San Diego Marathon.

Starting today, training is going to be harder to do at work though. Apparently, during my four days off, someone left work early for a medical appointment but didn't get anyone to cover for him. Somehow this translated in our LT's mind that we are no longer entitled to leave to work out during the day. Not only that, we aren't allowed to leave to get food either. It doesn't translate for me how a one persons medical appointment could mean that everyone on the watch floor is denied the opportunity to eat or work out...especially considering our long working hours and the fact that the Navy mandates that every command provide their sailors the opportunity to work out at least three times a week. It ridiculous and out of control. Today I was supposed to run 17 miles so I was forced to get up at 5 am so that I could get in my run before work. As it turned out, I'm going to have to get up a lot earlier in order to finish my runs and still make it to work on time. I'll be finishing my run tonight when I get home. All I can say is that this stupid rule is only going to reduce an already low morale and I have a feeling that without a doubt this is going to be reflected in the quality of work that comes out of this office.

Oh man! I literally just got the best news ever! So I may have made mention of how much I want an iPad recently (here) well, the wife just told me that her parents have decided to go ahead an buy me one as a very early Christmas present! I get it tomorrow!!! I'M SO EXCITED!!! I DON'T KNOW HOW I'M GOING TO BE ABLE TO SLEEP TONIGHT KNOWING THAT I WILL BE GETTING AN IPAD TOMORROW! Expect the next blog to be from that most awesome device!!!

Sometimes running can suck...sometimes it's AWESOME!!!!

Current Music: Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me
Current Mood: Exhuasted

Oh man, I am out of it! I don't know what was wrong with me this week but from Tuesday through Thursday I was completely lethargic. I didn't want do anything and least of all run. So I didn't...run that is. I didn't really have much choice when it come to doing other things but stuff still had to be done. I should have forced myself to run though because yesterday I ran 5 miles and today I ran 15 miles but both of these runs were so painful. My lungs hurt, my legs hurt, my body was tired and I was slow! I don't understand how after only 3 days, years of training can go out the window. I guess it didn't help that I wasn't exactly eating well or drinking that much water either. I've learned my lesson though and I'm going to make sure not to make that mistake again. This week has been the worst part of my training so far, I'm hoping it's all downhill from now on. Especially with the marathon just around the corner.
On the plus side, my goal of 800 miles this year is already more than half way completed. Three and a half months into the year and I've run 421.5 miles. If I can keep running as much as I have been over these three months I could get close to 1600 miles this year, twice my goal? AWESOME!!! Plus, if I get accepted into Across the Years I hope to run 100 miles in that 24 hours alone so I could potentially run 1700 miles this year...hopefullly I won't get injured.

My daughter is AWESOME!!!

I think I've alluded to this a couple times but I haven't really come out and said it but it should be said, I am so proud of my daughter! She makes me so happy and she is so incredibly smart that it's almost scary! I consider her to be fairly advanced for her age. OK, maybe I'm just saying this because I don't know any better but I can't help it! She is amazing and I have proof!
This week my daughter will be 11 months old...but she is so advanced that she is already walking! She started walking just after Easter weekend she was 10 1/2 months old! Here's the proof!

From what I hear, for her to be walking like this before 11 months is pretty advanced...but I guess I can't be too surprised, she is my daughter after all! And that was just the beginning! She is only getting more coordinated and secure on her feet. She will still crawl when she wants to get some place fast but I have very little doubt that she's going to be running just like her daddy very soon! I can't wait!

I'm only giving you what you asked for

Current Music: The Heavy - How You Like Me Now

You might recall that recently I recieved my yearly work evaluation and two of area's that I was told to improve was volunteership and community involvement. Well, yesterday while I was at work I  had an opportunity to go to an elementary school near work to spend time with the kids. I asked my LT. if I could go and he told me it was fine as long as I could find someone to sit in for me at work. Luckily there was someone here willing to cover for me.
There were 11 of us that went to the school and we played with the kids, and helped them with their school work. It was a very cool experiance and I will definitely be willing to do it again. As long as I can get out of work.
I don't know why we're told to volunteer but then make it hard for us to go. Sometimes work can be very frustrating.

To the city of San Diego

Dear Department of Transportation San Diego,
On Monday at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon I was traveling Northbound on Interstate 15 with my wife and daughter when out of no where a large metal object appeared in the road. Now, normally I would have swerved to avoid the object but on this day the roads were slick with water from the rain. In order to avoid crashing my car entirely I opted to run over the object. Running over this object caused sever damage to both my tire and the wheel. So much damage in fact that I had to replace them. However, due to the fact that the tire company that I went to did not carry my wheel or tire I was forced to replace all four wheels and tires at a cost of $537. After all, having one wheel that looks different than the rest is not cool. I am writing you now to insist that you reimburse me for the cost of the damage as it occured on your public road. I will be anxiously looking for a check in the mail. Thank you for your time and cooperation.

Sincerely,
Carlos Bonnett-Castillo

Easter, Opening Day, and EARTHQUAKES!!!!

Happy Easter everyone!!! What a fun day we had today! It was so fun having Natalie's first Easter and seeing the excitement on her little face when she saw what the "Easter Bunny" had brought her! Easter weekend started yesterday though. As I mentioned yesterday Erin's parents flew into town to celebrate the holiday with us. I was asleep when they arrived because I had worked the night before. I was a trooper though, I got up 3 1/2 hours earlier than I normally do because in our neighborhood there was an Easter celebration going on where the Easter Bunny was going to be taking pictures with all the kids! Being Natalie's first Easter, we had to go get a picture of Natalie with the Bunny so I gladly sacrificed my sleep...if you ask Erin, you'll understand what sleep means to me.

Waiting in line for the Bunny          The Bunny had to go potty
so we played in the grass

Trying to make friends in the grass               Easter Bunny!!!

This morning, shortly after breakfast and everyone was up Natalie got to search for he new toys from the Bunny!

Natalie in her Easter dress        Natalie and her new toys

Bunny ears from the Bunny        So happy with the toys!

               Happy Family

The Bunny also decided to hide a basket of goodies for Natalie to search for. I'm glad the Bunny did that because this is going to prepare our little Natalie for egg hunts in the future.

The hidden basket             Natalie found it in no time

Trying to tear the plastic off     Excited to get into the basket

After Natalie had her Easter hunt it was time for the "big kids" to find Easter baskets. Naturally, being the great hunter that I am, I was the first to find my basket!!! I totally beat Erin and Tyler!!! Ok...so that might not be entirely true. I might have been last. In my defense, I didn't know it was a race until I had lost! I got cheated!

   First the WORST!!!

    Second the BEST!!!

Third the MOST AWESOME!!!! (Yes that's how the rhyme goes damn it!)

    Everyone's a winner...YAY!!!!

So I'm looking at the blog so far and thinking about what I still have to talk about...this is going to be a long one people! You've been warned.

Grandma Carla and Grandpa Jim got Natalie an Easter card for her first Easter and they were kind enough to give Natalie $20 to spend as she wants...well, with Mommy standing right there...let's just say Natalie's money quickly "got lost"!

Discovering her money         Showing Daddy her cash

"YOINK!!!"                      Begging mom to give it back

Natalie went through several ward robe changes today...she had her cute little Easter dress, she had her Easter dinner outfit, and she had her post dinner outfit because she was covered in Easter dinner. So here are some pics of our little pumpkin head in various outfits through out the day.

Posing for the camera          Easter dinner served on a plate

Apparently the tray is better   Natalie found Tyler's phone

Trying to get Daddy's camera  Watching Mommy clean

OK, so I have to set up the next picture. Natalie was wearing the little flower head band but decided she didn't like it on her head so she reached up and snatched it off her head. Apparently she didn't want anyone to see what she had done so she slowly "walked" her way into a corner and hid there and examined her head band! It was so cute.  Here she is hiding and playing with her head band.

OK, so yes, today was Easter but it wasn't the only thing going on today! Today was Opening Day of the 2010 baseball season!!! And what better way to start the season than with the Yankees and the redsux renewing their rivalry! Before I get to that though, I have to talk about another event that happened today. In case you haven't seen it on CNN or heard someone mention it on Facebook or Myspace...we had an earthquake here today! Alright, so the epicenter wasn't here in San Diego, it was actually south of the border pretty much directly south of my old duty station of El Centro, CA. It was a 7.2 earthquake and we felt it all the way here in Point Loma. We were rocking and rolling for at least 45 seconds. It totally threw off my equilibrium! Thankfully there was no damage here and no one was hurt. I talked to my friend Murph, who lives in El Centro and he said that some of the roads split open and his power went out but besides that it wasn't too bad.

I've been putting this off for the entire blog...Yes, today was opening day and the Yankees played the redsux...Yes, it was awesome until the Yankees blew a freaking 5-2 lead!!! Then a 7-5 lead!!! Are you kidding me!?!?! Is this how the season is going to start again? We had to climb out of last place half way through last season...I probably lost at least 3 years of my life stressing about my Yankees last year. Can you guys please just win all the time and save me the stress!!! 9-7 loss against the redsux is not how I wanted to start the season. At least CC looked really good through 5 1/3 innings. Come on Yankees lets do better!! So this was pretty much a sucky ending to a great day...but as I was loading today's pictures on to our computer...I saw a picture of Erin and it reminded me of how lucky I am and that even though the Yankees lost today...there's always tomorrow and tomorrow will be with this woman.

That's my beautiful bunny! I'm so freakin' lucky!!!

When it comes to movies, what's better than zombies and vampires?

Current Music: AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
Current Mood: Rested
Current Location: Point Loma, CA

There has been a recent trend in Hollywood of movies having to do with the undead. Vampire movies, vampire shows, and zombies too! And I'm all for it. I love these kind of movies! This morning I read an upcoming movies list that has me even more excited about the movies coming out in the near future.

Here is a list of the top 5 (by release date) undead movies that I'm looking forward to in the next year.

1. Resident Evil: Afterlife (September 10, 2010): This movie is the 4th installment of the Resident Evil series. Thankfully Milla Jovovich is returning as the lead role in the movie. I am skeptical about two aspects of this film. The first being the supporting cast. Of all the characters from the original film, Jovovich is the only surviving character and I'm worried that the replacements might not cut it. The second is this edition is being filmed in 3D. This is another recent Hollywood trend...one that I'm not such a big fan of. I understand making animated or CG films in 3D but live action films...it just seems like the quality of the film is going to be degraded. Besides, who wants to sit in a movie theater with glasses on their face for 2 hours?

2. Dark Shadows (2011): This is a remake of a late 1960's ABC TV series. I've never heard of it, but the reason I'm looking forward to it is because it's another Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie. This will be the 8th movie these guys have worked on together and if the past films are any indication of what this one could be, then I have no doubt it's going to be great.

3. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2011): I'm actually looking forward to this movie because I'm reading this book right now! The mash up of Jane Austen's classic and Seth Grahame-Smith's love of the undead has turned Pride and Prejudice into a much more exciting read...at least in my opinion. If the film adaptation can stay true to the book this might make for a very exciting film.
4. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2011): Another Seth Grahame-Smith book being turned into a movie. This guy is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I really hope this movie doesn't get ruined by the Hollywood machine because I couldn't put this book down. I don't know who they could cast to play Lincoln because that guy had very distinguishing features. The book was pretty violent and hopefully the film will be too.

5. Zombieland 2 (2011): If you haven't seen the first movie, I definitely recommend that you do. That film was hilarious! Bill Murray's cameo was classic! Both Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg have already expressed interest in returning for the sequel which in my opinion is a must...the first one was about these two guys! How could the sequel even hope to succeed without them? In my opinion, it can't.

IPad's and Baseball..What more could I ask for?

Current Music: Her Space Holiday - Sleepy Tigers
Current Mood: Tired...so tired.
Current Location: Point Loma, CA

I can't believe that it has once again been a week since I was on here last. I thought that maintaining a blog would be a pretty simple task. I thought I would have a lot to talk about but it seems as if I may have been a little off the mark. On most days there aren't a lot of things going on that I concider interesting enough to write on here and on the days that there are, I'm just too tired to climb up the stairs to get to the computer. This is why I absolutely NEED an IPad.
As most of you have heard this fabulous new Apple invention comes out this Saturday and to be honest, I don't know how I survived 26 years of life without one. I'll be able to wirelessly check my email, browse the internet, read books, play games, and blog without having to drag my lazy ass up, climbing the stairs and using my home computer. So, if someone out there wants to go ahead an buy me one, or donate some money to my IPad fund, I'm only $499 short of my goal of $499. So large donations are welcome.

It's the last Friday before Opening Day of the 2010 baseball season! I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend Easter Sunday. Sitting in front of the TV watching my Yankees obliterate those loser redsux. I'm calling it right now, the Yankees are going to repeat as the World Champions! Put it on your calendar, mark it on your white boards, tattoo your freakin' face! It's going to happen! I'm not sure what happened on that last sentence...random words just strung together that don't make sense doesn't really qualify as a complete sentence. I guess that just makes me another dumb American butchering the English language. Just trying to do my part.

Ok, well time to go back to work. I hope everyone has a great weekend and hopefully I'll be able to peel myself off the couch to get on the computer a little more often to blog because I have a feeling that I'm not going to be getting that IPad anytime soon.
