I got off work this morning and it was raining. I thought to myself, ok it's raining now but surely in 8 hours when I am ready to go on my 13 mile run the rain will have let up. Even if it's just sprinkling I can get my run on. So I go home, get some sleep and wake up to some pretty consistent rain, nothing out of control though. It takes me about an hour after I wake up to get ready for a run. Especially on a long day like today because I like for my body to wake up and I like to hydrate some. Anyway, after that hour I got all ready to go on my run and as I was getting ready to leave I could hear the rain from inside the apartment. I thought to myself, "not good". I then went and looked out the window to see exactly how bad it was, sometimes the rain sounds worse than it is. Not this time. It was a torrential downpour! Ok, maybe not torrential but it was coming down hard and heavy...nothing that I wanted to go out in. I was disappointed that I wasn't able to go out on my run but luckily I am able to push it back a day because tomorrows forecast is looking awesome. No rain, little wind, and partly cloudy skies...perfect.
The Olympics are coming to an end this weekend and I'm a little disappointed because I love watching these athletes perform! They get me so motivated to keep going and to train hard and smart. One thing that I will be starting up again now that the Olympics are over though is reading my books. I've been slacking on reading because there is just so much Olympic coverage! I may have to start at the beginning of the book I was reading before the Olympics, Americans In Paris, Life & Death Under Nazi Occupation by Charles Glass is a collection of true stories of Americans that decided to stay in Paris during WWII after the Nazi's invaded but before the U.S. had entered the war. I love reading about that era. It's such a fascinating period in history and the bravery of the people in the face of evil is so inspiring.
I have the next four days off of work and I'm very excited for all the things we have planned preparing for the move. I'm even more excited that my leave got approved for the week of the move so I will only have to work two days next week before getting 9 days off! It's going to be so nice not to have to worry about saving the world for those days. I can just focus on family, friends, and our new house.
