It's been a week? Seriously?

I have been slacking on my blogging once again. I can't believe it's been over a week since I last put anything up. Though, in all fairness I didn't have a whole lot of time over the last few days. When I started this blog I wanted to try and write everyday. Turns out it's easier said than done. Blogging has bcome the inactive equivalent of what running is to my active side. I want to do it as often as I can and when I miss a day I feel as though I've let myself down for not completing a goal. There are days when I try to justify it by saying it's ok, I'll do it tomorrow. But I procrastinate enough as it is...these two activities can't fall into that web. It's so hard to get out of. My mom came out to for a visit so I spent all my free time with her. By the end of each day I was just too tired to get on the computer. Honestly, I think I only got on the computer 3 times while she was here, and each time it wasn't more than 10 minutes. I don't get to see my mom all that often so I didn't want to waste the time I did have sitting and staring at a computer screen. Besides, I do that enough at work.

One thing we did do however was a lot of shopping. We went all over town to different stores, Erin bought stuff for the house, I bought running clothes, and my mom almost bought one of those electronic cigarettes...but decided to wait until she got home to see if she could buy it there instead. We did find a cool little farmers market...and when I say little...I mean very tiny with about 20 vendors. But what they had there was amazing. We bought homemade tamales, homemade toffee, and this really good garlic pesto dip. I almost bought this juice made of a bunch of green leafy plants. It sounds gross, looks worse but actually tastes really good. Unfortunately, by the time we got to that booth we were all out of cash. I'm thinking I might go back this week and get some.

While my mom was here we celebrated my birthday. Its official I'm old. I don't feel old though so that's good. I like to think that even though I'm 26 years old now...I probably have the maturity level of an 18 year old. I want to stay young at heart for as long as possible. It's getting harder to do though. Being a father and having responsibilities can really change a person.

Erin and I also had the opportunity to do something that we don't get to do very often, and that is go out to dinner...just the two of us. I really enjoyed our time out together eating and conversing about our lives. I love spending time with her, and though we were both pretty focused on our conversations, Natalie wasn't far from our minds.

Work has been a little crazy lately. There are so many changes being made to the way we do business that sometimes it can get overwhelming. But being in the Navy now for 6 years, there is one thing that I've learned, and that is that if you want to stand out amongst your peers, you need to rise to the challenge. Yes, there is sometimes a sharp learning curve and it takes time to adjust to the changes but eventually you get used to the change and you adapt.

I've gotten back on track with my running. The rain has moved out of San Diego for the time being so the weather has been absolutely wonderful and perfect for running. I've mentioned this before but I don't think it was on this site, but I love meeting people when I run. Just the other day I was finishing up a 6 mile run when an older gentleman ran up beside me and struck up a conversation. Chuck, (that's his name) is training for the Boston marathon and has also signed up to run the Half-Marathon at the SD RnR. We only ran together for about a quarter of a mile but it's just that kind of thing that makes me want to keep running. The camaraderie among runners is something that I don't see very often, even in the Navy.

Finally, Erin and I have confirmed that we are definitely moving at the beginning of next month. We have been approved to move into military housing and even had the opportunity to walk through the house yesterday. It's a nice little two story house and though I have reservations about how some of the rooms are laid out, I am excited to move in. I think that once we get our stuff into the house we'll have a better idea of how to adjust to the layout of the rooms. The biggest benefit however, will be that Natalie will have her own play area and we will not have to be chasing her all over the house to make sure she doesn't get into something she's not supposed to. I'll be very happy once we are all settled in.
