Common Sense should always prevail

So yesterday I mentioned that I had another beef with something I had read in the news but didn't want to make yesterdays blog entirely out of rants so I saved it for today. So here it is. Apparently in Queens, NY a 12 year old girl, who by all accounts is a well behaved student was arrested for doodling on her desk. She didn't write anything profane, just that she was there and that she loved her friends. Now, instead of the principal taking it upon himself to rectify the situation, he picked up the phone, called the police, and had the young lady arrested. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? How is it that anyone could think to themselves that this offense is a police matter. As if the police don't have serious issues to deal where actual crimes are being committed. Now this girl has a juvinile record and has to perform eight hours of community service, write a book report and an essay on what she's learned from the expericance. You know what I've learned? That principal is an idiot and needs to be fired.

Alright, that's enough of that. Lets move on.

Ok, so if you recall, yesterday I had to get my H1N1 shot because the Navy requires all personnel to be vaccinated. Well apparently my bosses decided that I didn't get my vaccine in a timely manner so I was given another written counseling so that  I could be made aware of my...shortcoming. Now, the last one I got I totally I agreed with because I totally deserved it. This one however, I take issue with. I'll explain. The counseling and my issues are as follows:

"On Jan 14th (got my seasonal flu shot and told to wait at least 30 days before the next shot) and Feb 11th (wasn't at work so I didn't get the email, plus no one called to tell me) you were directed to ensure your FLU shot was completed. 16 FEB 10 make up Seasonal Influenza vaccinations as well as H1N1 vaccinations were made available to the staff who had not already received them. You were directed by IS1 (Name) to ensure that you completed your shot no later than 16 FEB (not true and have the email to prove it) and to provide the paperwork to the chain of command. The vaccinations have been available at several clinics since November 09 (except for when they ran out due to the shortage) and COMTHIRDFLT had a previous SHOTEX on 14 Jan 10. You procrastinated (I wouldn't call extenuating circumstances procrastination) and did not ger you shot until both your LPO and department LPO directed you to. This is not acceptable behaviour and we expected you as a front running second class (<- I must be doing something right) to manage your time and priorities better."

I was ready to argue my point because I knew that it was coming but I decided it was pointless and I was too tired to care because I was coming off another 12 hour overnight shift. In the end it doesn't even really matter because 1) I got the shot and 2) this written piece of paper is meaningless and has no bearing on my future in the Navy.

Besides this little speed bump, today was actually a good day. I got a nice 6 mile run in and Erin being the awesome wife that she is went to the farmers market and got me the organic smoothie that I had wanted to buy last week. She bought me a 32oz bottle of the most disgusting looking but awesome tasting drink and it's supposed to be really good for me too. Here's what's in it. Greens (Kale, Chard, Collard Greens, Romaine Lettuce, Green Leaf Lettuce, Spinach, Dandelion Greens, Parsley) Pure Water, Apple Juice, Apple, Banana and Flax Seed. It's really good and I recommend that everyone at least try it.

Today is my last night of work and then I get the next four days off. I can't wait.
